HCVMA is excited to announce our next speakers, Dr. Craig Datz, MS, DABVP, DACVIM (Nutrition)
Dr. Datz earned his veterinary degree at the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine and his master’s degree at the University of Missouri. He spent 14 years in private companion animal practice and 11 years on the faculty at MU, where he worked in the areas of Community Practice and Clinical Nutrition. He then joined Royal Canin USA as a teaching, clinical, and research nutritionist. Dr. Datz is board-certified by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (Nutrition) and is board-certified in canine/feline and feline practice by the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners.
Dr. Christine Garrett
Dr. Garrett is an Alabama native currently living in Nashville, Tennessee. She attended Auburn University for her undergraduate studies majoring in Zoology and minoring in Animal Science. While in pursuit of her undergraduate degree, Dr. Garrett studied porcine models for human metabolic syndrome. She also worked in Portland, Oregon, as a small animal veterinary assistant, where her passion for veterinary medicine grew.
Dr. Garrett is a proud Auburn Tiger, and she was thrilled to continue her education at Auburn University's College of Veterinary Medicine, where she obtained her DVM. During veterinary school, she was particularly interested in theriogenology (animal reproduction) and surgery. After graduation, Dr. Garrett moved to middle Tennessee and began practicing small animal medicine and surgery. She pursued additional training in oral surgery and ultrasound while maintaining a focus on overall patient care and wellness.
When she is not working with animals, Dr. Garrett enjoys sharing time with those she cares about most, her friends and family. She enjoys traveling, art, music, sports, and staying active with the many things to do in the Nashville area.
Dr. Kasey Crabb
Dr. Crabb Completed her undergraduate degree at Texas A&M University before earning her veterinary degree from Iowa State University. As a born and raised Texan she quickly returned to Texas after graduation to companion animal general practice. Her practice experience includes canine and feline care, surgery, emergent care, dermatology, and dentistry. She joined Dechra as a professional services veterinarian in 2024. Dr. Crabb lives in Austin, Texas with her husband, two pitties (Marty & Rona), cat (Pepperjack), and herd of Nigerian dwarf goats. Dr. Crabb has passions in cooking, baking, and traveling the world
Melissa Carter, RVT, CVPM
Melissa Carter has been part of the veterinary industry since 2012. She began her career by earning her Certified Veterinary Assistant (CVA) through Animal Behavior College and later advanced her credentials by achieving the Certified Veterinary Practice Manager (CVPM) designation from the Veterinary Hospital Managers Association in 2020. Committed to continuous growth, Melissa completed her studies at Platt College in August 2021 and became a Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) in California in June 2022.
Melissa joined the Animal Cancer and Referral Center in November 2022 and currently serves as Practice Manager for all locations. She is passionate about supporting her teams, fostering growth, and ensuring excellence in client and patient care.
Outside of work, Melissa is a proud mom to two beautiful daughters and four beloved pets. She enjoys traveling with her family, caring for her ever-growing collection of plants, and indulging in great food.
