President's Letter

February 2012

Howdy y’all !

HCVMA has gotten off to a great start this year. Our January speaker, Dr. David Grant, got our two part practice management series started off on the right foot. He had some excellent tips for hiring and training employees. If you missed the meeting, check out our website, www.hcvma.org , for the lecture notes. While your checking out the notes, don’t forget to renew your membership.

Part two of our practice management series will get underway February 9, 2012 with Wendy Myers. She is an amazing speaker with great ideas that are very practical for private practice. Her topic is “Marketing Preventative Care.” She is sponsored by Vetstreet.  I hope to see all of you at the meeting.

Mark your calendars for our March 8th meeting. We will have Dr. Ashley Saunders from TAMU speaking.  Her topic is cardiology.

The Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo is starting later this month. This is one of my favorite events all year! Several HCVMA members serve on the Veterinary Committee. These veterinarians along with technicians volunteer their time and expertise in sample collection for drug testing. Serving on this committee is a great opportunity to interact with some great kids. I always come away from the show with a wonderful feeling about my profession and my colleagues.

HCVMA is privileged to have two new board of directors joining us this year. Drs. April Inman and Corbett Post.  Please join me in welcoming these new directors. I would like to personally thank them and all of the board members for their service.  I most especially would like to thank Dr. Doug Humphrey. He has done an amazing job of guiding HCVMA over the past year. He is extremely dedicated and we are very lucky to have him.

Respectfully Submitted,

Jodi B. Long, DVM, MS
