President's Letter

May 2012

Howdy y’all !

May is a busy month for HCVMA. We are holding one of our all day Sunday meetings. We are excited to have Dr. Claudia Barton with us. She will be covering some excellent cytology & oncology topics. Be sure to check the website for notes & details. There will be announcements during this meeting from members of SWVS & the Harris County Foundation.

As with past Sunday meetings, we will be surveying attendees to help us improve our meetings. Included in the survey will be questions regarding proposed by-laws changes to membership requirements. The HCMVA board is considering allowing veterinary support staff as members. There will also be a section regarding canine influenza. We want your input & opinions on these important topics, so please comment. If you are unable to attend the meeting, feel free to contact a board member.

If you are ready to spring clean your office, Dr. Bill Haglund may be able to help you with that. He is collecting veterinary textbooks along with other gently used books to ship to Africa. This is a project supported by the Texas Rotary. You are welcome to bring books to the May 6th meeting . Dr. Haglund can be contacted at WMHAGLUND@aol.com for more details.

In a more sober tone, HCVMA recently lost a long time member.  Dr. Robert Frederick passed away April 28th. A Memorial Service will be held at 5:00 PM, on Saturday, May 5, at Earthman Southwest Chapel, Stafford, with a reception immediately following.

Respectfully Submitted,

Jodi B. Long, DVM, MS
