General Meeting - March 14, 2019 - Seizure Management
Dr. Beth Boudreau, DVM, PhD, DACVN will be delivering a talk on seizure management in 2019. The meeting will take place on Thursday, March 14, 2019, at Maggiano's Little Italy.
The CE will include a lecture portion as well as an interactive portion. This excerpt below is from Dr. Boudreau's presentation:
May the Odds Be Ever in Your Favor: Medical Uncertainty and Seizure Management
This exercise will use an element of chance, represented by a 20-sided die, to determine the outcome for each clinical decision made during the group’s management of acute and long-term recurrent seizures. Case examples will include structural, reactive, and idiopathic recurrent seizures in dogs and cats. Probabilities used to provide interpretation of each roll of the die will be drawn from current literature on seizure management in small companion animals. Emphasis will be on treatment decisions, including exploration of efficacy and adverse events. The importance of contingency planning and rare but clinically significant adverse events will be highlighted.
Dr. Beth Boudreau received her DVM from the Texas A&M University and a PhD in Neuroscience from Baylor University. She completed an internship in small animal medicine and surgery at The Ohio State University, followed by a residency in Neurology/Neurosurgery at the University of California, Davis. She is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (Neurology). Her special interests include neuro-oncology and neuroinflammation. She is currently on staff at the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital at Texas A&M.
